Cortinarius oregonensis Smith subgenus Myxacium Cap 2-4.5cm across, broadly convex becoming flat; pallid buff, buffy yellow in the center, more violet near the edge; glutinous. Gills adnate; pallid pinkish violet at first, then pallid, eventually more rusty. Stem 40-60 x 6-l0mm, slightly broader at the base; pallid violet at first, then pallid whitish. Flesh watery violet to brownish. Odor slight. Taste mild. Spores ellipsoid, slightly roughened, 6.5-7.6 x 3.7-4.6µ, quotient 1.70. Deposit rusty brown. Habitat under conifers. Uncommon. Found in Washington and Oregon. Season October-November. Not edible. Comment My material seems a good fit except that Smith's stem is much longer, 6-10cm.
